A Neighbour Aid Project

The Katoomba Volunteer Home Visitors can help if you are:

• A frail-aged person.
• Frail aged people and / or people living with a disability.
• A relative or friend who usually looks after this person and needs a break

How Can The Katoomba Volunteer Home Visitors  Help?

• Regular home visits
• 'Phone contact
• Give the usual carer a break.
• Information and referral to other services and groups such as social groups and health, government or community services.
• Pick up and drop off library books.
• Help with other tasks such as letter-writing/posting, reading, 'phone calls, shopping ( small tasks), walking pets.

Why Become A Volunteer Home Visitor?

• For the opportunity of providing a vital link with a socially isolated person and to use your skills to enhance another person's life.
• To be actively involved in your own community.
• To be a part of a Mountainwide team who are supported by their local co-ordinator.

The Benefits Include:

• Free training programmes and workshops.
• Reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses: petrol, fares and 'phone calls (as agreed).
• Regular support meetings and get-togethers with other volunteers.

Service Aims.

• To support frail-aged people and people of all ages with disabilities by providing services which enable these people to remain in their own homes rather then moving into institutions.
• To empower people by assisting them to remain as independent and dignified as possible.

Katoomba Volunteer Home Visitors is funded through the Home and Community Care Programme (HACC) ,a joint State and Federally funded program.
