Blue Mountains Home Modification and Maintenance Service

Who we Are:

Blue Mountains Home Modification and Maintenance Service (HMM) is a Home and Community Care (HACC) programme which is sponsored by Katoomba Neighbourhood Centre.

What we Do:

• We carry out modification and maintenance to enable people who are frail-aged or who have a disability to go on living in their own homes for as long as possible, rather than moving into nursing homes, hostels and other such facilities prematurely.
• Our emphasis is on ensuring and maintaining people's independence.

Who we can do work for:

Any person who has a moderate to severe disability resulting in difficulties with:

• essential daily tasks eg cooking, cleaning, bathing, toileting, showering
• occasional or frequent falls, eg: from giddy or dizzy attacks, strokes.
• mobility/access eg: walking with a frame or walking stck, or using a wheelchair.
• dementias eg: Alzheimer's disease, alcohol-related confusions.
• Episodic illnesses such as AIDS

What are Modifications:

• Bathroom and toilet grab rails
• Hand held showers.
• Ramps and paths.
• Rails to front and back entries.
• Wheelchair accessible showers
• Lever taps
• Widening doorways
• Adjusting bench heights.
• Rent-a-Ramp temporary ramp systems

What aren't we able to do:

We are unable to provide extensions or other home improvements. We are unable to do gutters, down pipes, roofs, lawn mowing, painting, tree lopping, furniture removal, rubbish removal or appliance repairs

What will it cost:

The client is asked to pay for the cost of materials and a small hourly labour charge.

Where possible, materials are at trade prices not retail. With some suppliers we have been able to negotiate discounts due to bulk ordering eg: handrails and handheld showers. On occasions we arrange sub-contractors for jobs and this work is charged accordingly.
